Omega ref. CK 859, produced on 18 January 1936 and delivered to Spain, just a few months before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War.
This watch has survived one of the most troubled episodes in 20th century European history. It was part of those watches delivered to a still republican Spain, on the brink of a conflict that would tear the country apart for three years.
The reference CK 859 is one of the most iconic from Omega's production in the 1930s. Omega even chose it in 2022 to create a modern reissue in its Specialities range, a testament to its iconic status within the brand's heritage. The original we offer here is much older: it is the genuine period piece.
Oversize case measuring 37 mm excluding the crown (39.5 mm including), 43 mm from lug to lug, and a lug width of 20 mm. For the 1930s, a diameter of 37 mm was considered decidedly oversize — men's wristwatches of the time typically measured between 30 and 35 mm.
Three-piece case made of Staybrite steel (the ancestor of modern stainless steel), Calatrava style with a flat bezel. Pressed case back signed Omega, Fab Suisse, Swiss-Made, numbered 9.010.190.

Original silvered dial with black Arabic numerals, outer railway track for the minutes, small seconds at 6 o'clock. Beautiful natural patina, consistent and homogeneous. Original blued steel sword hands.
Manual winding mechanical movement calibre Omega 26.5, 15 jewels, 18,000 vibrations/hour, compensated bimetallic balance, Breguet hairspring. Serial number 8,179,640, corresponding to the Omega archives extract. A robust and historically significant movement, a direct precursor to the famous family of calibres 30 T2 that will bring glory to Omega in chronometric competitions.
