Beautiful pocket watch Hebdomas, patented 8-day calibre, in a finely engraved golden metal case with floral and vegetal relief patterns. Lepine format, ornamented bow in Louis XV style, fluted crown. Inner cuvette signed *« 8 days / 8 jours / Anchor / Superior quality guaranteed / Swiss made »*.
White dial with enamel finish in perfect condition, blue Arabic numerals in circled cartouches, railway track punctuated with gold dots, two golden rosettes applied framing the opening of the barrel. Golden hands in Louis XV style.
Hebdomas movement 19 lines, manual winding, anchor escapement, monometallic balance with visible screw at 6 o'clock under an engraved bridge set with a cabochon ruby — an iconic visual signature of the brand, one of the very first "open heart" designs in watchmaking history. Large barrel occupying the entire diameter of the movement, ensuring 8 days of autonomy on a single winding.
Complete revision May 2026: disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, amplitude and timing control. The watch works perfectly and holds its power reserve well.
The patent for the Hebdomas calibre dates back to January 1889 (n°CH88, one of the very first Swiss patents), filed by Irénée Aubry of Saignelégier. The movement is produced in La Chaux-de-Fonds by Graizely & Cie and then by Schild & Cie from 1915 — up to 1000 watches per day in 1918. Awarded medals in Geneva, Paris, Chicago, and Brussels, the Hebdomas establishes itself as the great reference for 8-day watches at the beginning of the 20th century. After an eclipse, Schild SA relaunched production at the Basel Fair in 1968. This piece, with its case featuring decorated reliefs in an antique style and its bilingual dial, belongs to this reissue production of the 1970s.
