First generation of the IWC Ingenieur, the iconic anti-magnetic watch from International Watch Co, launched in 1955. This is the date version (ref. 666 AD), powered by the Pellaton automatic movement and protected from magnetism by its soft iron cage.
Staybrite stainless steel case.
Silver dial signed « International Watch Co - Schaffhausen », applied fluted stick indices, Ingenieur lightning logo, dauphine hands, date window at 3 o'clock.
Plexiglass with magnifying glass (cyclops) over the date, a rare configuration on this model.
Dial, hands, crown, glass and bracelet are all original.
The silver dial is superb; it shows a slight cream patina around the date window, a natural mark of time that does not detract from its readability or charm. Clean case, without shock or signs of corrosion.
Case diameter of 36 mm excluding crown, 44 mm from lug to lug, lug width 18 mm.
IWC 8531 automatic movement, bi-directional Pellaton winding: reliable, robust and precise. Serviced in June 2026: complete disassembly and cleaning, detailed lubrication, regulation. The watch works perfectly.
It comes on its Gay Frères « rice grain » bracelet, clasp signed IWC, the correct period bracelet for the Ingenieur, now sought after and valued on its own. (approximately €2000 for the bracelet alone). It is large, fitting up to approximately 19 cm wrist circumference.
