This Longines belongs to the lineage of "Majetek" pilot watches produced between 1935 and 1948 for the Czechoslovak Air Force.

In Italy, collectors nicknamed this model "Tartarugone" (big turtle) due to its characteristic cushion shape. Longines was the first to register this design on 1st April 1935 with the International Office of Intellectual Property in Bern.

By the end of the 1930s, the Czechoslovak Air Force was among the best equipped in Europe with 67 regiments. Following the German annexation of 1938, many Czech pilots fled to France and then to England, joining the RAF with their Longines on their wrists. These aviators played a crucial role during the Battle of Britain — Josef František shot down 17 Nazi planes in 28 days in September 1940.

It is estimated that around 3,000 units were delivered to the Czechoslovak Air Force, in addition to the civilian versions marketed alongside.

The calibre 15.68z that equips the third series represents the technical culmination of the Majetek series. Developed at the request of the Czechoslovak government, the 15.68Z was so precise that Longines used it for the timing competitions at the Neuchâtel Observatory between 1942 and 1948.
