This large Longines (jumbo or oversize) with a small second, in steel, dates from the very early fifties.
At that time, Longines designed and manufactured all of its movements in Saint-Imier, while the factory was accumulating timing records against the greatest Swiss names.
Stainless steel case, snap-on back stamped Longines, mention stainless steel and reference 6118, long, curved and tapered lugs.
Smooth and polished bezel, with a slim profile.
Original silver-white dial, turned cream, peripheral minute track and guilloché small second counter at 6 o'clock.
Applied gold indices, Arabic numerals 12, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 alternating with triangular indices, Longines winged logo below noon.
Gold alpha hands, matching small second hand.
Fluted steel crown.
Domed plexiglass.
Condition: the dial has taken on a uniform cream patina, punctuated by small dark spots clearly visible across the surface. The applied numeral indices and hands are in fair condition with very small signs of oxidation. The case shows the usual signs of wear, fine scratches on the case and on the back, without any significant impact; the lugs have retained their edges and beautiful proportions. Glass in good condition.
Dimensions: diameter 36 mm excluding crown, 38 mm including crown, height 45 mm from lug to lug, lug width 18 mm.
Longines Calibre 12.68Z, manual winding mechanical, 17 jewels, 18,000 vibrations per hour, approximately 41 hours of power reserve. This 12 line remained in the catalogue from 1938 until the end of the fifties and served as the basis for a whole family, with the central seconds version 12.68ZS and the pointer date 12.68ZQ.
Serviced in September 2026: complete disassembly and cleaning, detailed lubrication, adjustment. The watch is functioning perfectly.
