Omega « Jumbo » 38 mm - cal. 30T2 first series - 1939

Splendid and rare Omega « Jumbo » pre-war: 38 mm excluding crown, 39 mm including, 45.5 mm between lugs. It is a rare diameter for the time, when watches were mostly worn at 33-34 mm. Steel case, fine bezel and long downturned lugs: it wears large without appearing bulky.

The dial is original and has never been touched up: it is a gilt dial (galvanic gold plating), originally black, which has aged over time to a warm tropical brown-anthracite hue. The Breguet Arabic numerals and the gilt railway track stand out against the dark background, with a blued small seconds at 6 o'clock. The patina is even and the dial remains very legible..

The calibre 30T2 is one of the most iconic manual movements from Omega, renowned for its precision and robustness. This is the very first version: 15 jewels, nickel-plated plates — the light finish of the early days, before the later copper finish (known as "rose") — and without an anti-shock device: this is before the Incabloc (1943) and before the transition to 17 jewels.

The watch dates from before the use of model references engraved on the case: the case back, which is clipped, only bears a case serial number (10037073), along with the mention "Registered Model" and the Omega hallmark. It is the movement serial number (9 263 755) that dates it to 1939.
